Atria Copeland Seniors Embrace “YOLO” Lifestyle

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” – Mark Twain

YOLO or “you only live once,” is a phrase that reminds us to live fully and take risks. It’s also the phrase that inspires a group of residents in the YOLO club at Atria Copeland. Here, club members and other residents have adopted YOLO as their motto for aging actively. The club is comprised of six core members who are Active Aging Champions and who continuously encourage others to get involved.

Active Aging Champions are selected by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) for their passion and commitment to living life to its fullest possible potential.

Active Aging Champion resident Dee K. has been the catalyst for the YOLO campaign in our community, claiming her generation should be seen as the generation of “why not?” rather than “what for?”

Within our community we promote active aging with gentle encouragement. We have so many wonderful residents who have lived vibrant lives and our goal is to enhance their experiences today, and help them continue to live a full life. And we’ve tried it all, from zip lining, to bungee jumping, hot air ballooning and indoor skydiving.

Atria Copeland resident and YOLO club member Doris H. loves to share her many adventure stories with friends and says, “They can’t wait to see what comes next.” Doris frequently tells others, “Life is too short to sit around and do nothing. Why not get out there and LIVE?”

We should all aspire to live our lives out loud like Doris, and at Atria Copeland, that’s exactly what we do. Atria communities engage life with pride, professionalism, creativity and fun – enhancing lives and exceeding expectations every day.

So next time you find yourself hesitating to venture outside your comfort zone, remember: YOLO!
