The Phoenix is a gym that people can go to if they’re struggling with addiction. The only cost of membership? 48 hours of sobriety.

According to their website, their mission is “to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live.”

If you’re in recovery from substance use disorder and want to live sober, The Phoenix will help you find strength and a new community of friends to support your journey.

The gym offers everything from group fitness, cycling, and strength training, to yoga, climbing, hiking, and socials. All of these are led by peers in recovery and supporters who want to help.

The Phoenix has locations in 53 cities across the country and has more than 58,000 members. If you are unable to join in person classes, they have live-streamed classes online that you can participate in.

The Phoenix’s founder, Scott Strode, started the gym in Boston in 2006 after struggling with a substance use disorder himself. He found that boxing and exercise played a huge role in his recovery, and wanted to help others like him in their recoveries.

“It started to sort of melt away the shame and this sort of negative self image that I carried,” Strode told USA Today. “I started to reinforce it with this belief in myself. And so it’s something that carries forward as a thread in The Phoenix today. That we believe in you, even if you don’t yet believe in yourself.”

The Phoenix relies on donations and grants to keep their membership free and facilities up and running. For more information, click here to visit their website.
