Lucy Donmoyer may only be six years old, but she’s already been through more than most adults.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Lucy’s mom noticed that Lucy wasn’t being her normal self and continuously had a fever. She was also complaining that her back and hip hurt. After receiving exams and bloodwork, which revealed that she was anemic, she was referred to a hematologist at Nemours Children’s Speciality Care in Jacksonville, Florida.

The doctor noticed that her belly was distended, and he could feel a large mass in her abdomen. That’s when he ordered an ultrasound and chest X-ray.

She was soon diagnosed with an aggressive, high-risk form of neuroblastoma and was admitted to Wolfson Children’s Hospital, where she began her first round of high-intensity chemotherapy.
