NRG Bites: The Perfect Sized Healthy Snack

Diabetes

Oftentimes, I find myself standing in front of the pantry looking for something small and healthy that I could take on the go. As someone living with type 1 diabetes, “grabbing something” takes more thought than you’d like, as you want this snack to be kind to your blood sugars…and your waistline. Since NRG bites have entered my home, they have completely filled that void in my pantry!

Who Are They?

NRG was created by yacht chef, Paul Kahan, after his diagnosis with type 1 diabetes at the age of 27. Paul’s job of tasting all the food he makes became very challenging once he was diagnosed. Since he was always on the go, Paul relied on protein bars as a quick snack with a burst of energy. He realized many protein bars he had been eating were loaded with sugar and were high in calories.

Paul joined forces with Chris Ruden, a motivational speaker and diabetes online community fan favorite, and Raul Febles, another type 1 who owned a creative design company, to develop his vision of NRG bites. They set out to create a lower-calorie, low-carb snack that would also satiate cravings.

What Is It Made Out Of?

NRG bites are small, bite-size protein bars that are full of flavor. These chef-inspired bars provide natural protein and make the perfect snack for anyone looking to better their health without sacrificing flavor.

NRG bars come in four flavors–peanut butter cookie snack bar, chocolate chip brownie, birthday cake protein snack, and vanilla cranberry bundt cake. They range from 8-12 g of carbohydrates per bar but also have fiber, which makes their net carb count even lower. They also are rich in protein, given their small size, coming in at 8-10 grams of protein per bar.

NRG bars are GMO-free, gluten-free, and use protein-dense organic butter. They contain grass-fed whey concentrate, milk protein isolate, and whey protein isolate.

How Does It Taste?

I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of these bars. The peanut butter cookie snack bar is my favorite because the peanut butter tastes rich and creamy, just like the real deal. It has the perfect mixture of crunchy and chewy in each bite and I, as well as creators, highly recommend keeping this in the fridge. Any lover would appreciate the rich, velvety flavor of the chocolate chip brownie. It comes with a generous amount of chocolate chips in and there is a crispy cocoa bite to it which makes it a standout for low-carb protein brownie options for me. I also loved the vanilla cranberry bundt cake, I found it a little sweet but paired with coffee, this became a decadent breakfast while working from home. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the birthday cake as I am usually not a fan of this flavor, but it is just the right amount of sweet and something different for my taste buds!

None of these snacks significantly impacted my blood sugar either, which is a huge win!

Where Can I Purchase It and How Much Does It Cost?

My Review

I found NRG bites to fill a void that I’ve been missing. It is the perfectly portioned snack that won’t affect my blood sugars or ruin my weight loss efforts. It is a great healthy choice for on-the-go, which is hard to come by. I think NRG bites did a great job of striking a balance between proper nutrition and taste! I highly recommend it!
