Best Sleeping Tips For New Parents

Sleep deprivation is an issue that many new parents face after welcoming their newborn. For some, the problem could only last for a month or two. For other parents, the issue could go longer for up to a year.

Mindbodygreen has shared some tips on how to get more sleep as new parents. Not only are they easy to follow, they are also very effective in ensuring a good night’s sleep.

First is to get the right nutrition for your body. As a new parent, you will need more energy when dealing with your newborn baby’s needs. Eating bananas, chocolates, nuts and other fruits is highly recommended by experts.

Another tip is to exercise. While this may sound odd since you will need your energy when taking care of your child, you will actually refuel your body fast by working out. You don’t necessarily need to go to the gym. Just moving around the house or doing basic exercise indoors would already suffice.

You also need to come up with a routine and stick to it. Keep the things you do in the morning and at night separate. It’s best to also hit the sack as early as possible. Sleep when your baby is also asleep. It’s a win-win situation when you get some shut-eye while your child is sleeping and not asking for milk.

If you are someone who always checks on your phone, be sure to switch it to night mode by 7 p.m. This way, its display will be less bright and the colors on the screen won’t affect your sleeping patterns.

Bring in as much light in your house during the day. Open windows and let the sunlight in. By seeing more light throughout the day, your natural biorhythms won’t be affected. You will also enjoy better sleep at night by doing so.

Finally, put away your phone, tablet and laptop at least two hours before you go to bed. The light they emit can affect the production of melatonin in your body. When they are tucked away early, you can sleep faster.
