Second, if you’re hoping that you don’t have to interact with people much because you are choosing a specialty with little clinic time, understand that social interaction is a core component of effective healthcare – both in dealing with patients but also the other members of the healthcare team. Third, becoming a doctor is less about intelligence and more about work ethic, so you shouldn’t shy away from grinding it out for long periods of time.
And last, medicine should be your primary focus, at least during your premed, medical school, and residency years. As an attending physician you have more flexibility with your time, but until then, medicine must be a central focus.
