Medical School Application DEALBREAKERS #SHORTS

Videos
Here are 3 medical school application dealbreakers from former admissions committee members. Number one is having a low GPA and/or MCAT. Although some schools may overlook these numbers or place a greater emphasis on other factors, they are the exception and not the rule.

Stellar extracurriculars won’t always make up for a subpar GPA or MCAT.

Number two is having inappropriate posts on your social media. You may cherish those funny photos of you doing a keg stand with your friends for the first time; however, medical school admissions committees feel differently.

To mitigate this risk, consider changing your profile name to a pseudonym, making your profile private, or, better yet, removing any suspect or concerning images completely.

Lastly, number three is having a boring or generic application. Most students’ applications more or less resemble the premed stereotype. They’ve checked the boxes by doing X hours of clinical volunteering, Y hours of shadowing, and Z hours of research. They want to go to medical school because they want to help people and love science.

If you can craft a narrative that is unique and engaging, you’ll have a significant leg up over the competition.
