Number three, a weak personal statement or secondaries. While objective scores are important, the personal statement and secondaries are your chance to let your personality and narrative shine through. Don’t take these essays lightly.
Number four, suboptimal letters of recommendation. Be careful when selecting your letter writers. If you look good on paper but someone says you’re terrible to work with, you’ll have a rough time getting into medical school.
Number five, lack of extracurriculars. Medical schools want well-rounded students with a good understanding of the medical profession. Prioritize quality over quantity.
Lastly, number six is failing to prepare for interviews. The medical school interview can make or break your entire application. Take the time to practice common questions and be on your best behavior on interview day – you never know who might be watching.
