6 Things I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Doctor #SHORTS

Videos
Here are six things I wish I knew before becoming a doctor. One, you’ll learn a lot but you’ll also forget a lot. As you start to specialize in your field of choice, your knowledge will go from broad and shallow to narrow and deep. Two, nurses can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Stay on their good side and you’ll be glad you did.

Three, strong people skills are a must. A good physician can effectively convey information to patients, in group learning situations, among the medical team, and when teaching colleagues or students during didactic time.

Four, not all specialties are created equal. Your choice of specialty will dictate your lifestyle both during your medical training and once you start practicing.

Five, you’ll never view death and suffering the same again. You gain a unique perspective and learn to appreciate the importance of quality of life and healthspan over lifespan.

Six, you still won’t know the answer to a lot of common questions. The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. True experts acknowledge the limitations of current medical research. Only the ignorant speak in absolutes.
