Surgical first assistants play a critical role in surgical procedures. They assist in operations of all shapes and sizes, including traditional “open” surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries, and robotic surgeries. As part of the operating room team, surgical first assistants have responsibilities before, during, and after surgery.
