“Calcineurin inhibitors such as tacrolimus and cyclosporine are immunosuppressants. They are used mainly to prevent organ transplant rejection in combination with mycophenolate and steroids as well used in severe atopic dermatitis. They are not really used as much for rheumatologic conditions any more, possibly for lupus nephritis. Calcineurin inhibitors are also used for the treatment of graft versus host disease in bone marrow transplant recipients. Calcineurin inhibitors inhibit the synthesis of IL2.”
