So You Want to Be an ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON #SHORTS

Videos
So you want to be an orthopedic surgeon. Orthopedic surgery is the specialty of medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. This includes treatment of fractures and surgical repair of tendon and ligament injuries, just to name a few. To become an orthopedic surgeon, you must first complete four years of medical school, followed by five years of orthopedic surgery residency.

In terms of competitiveness, orthopedic surgery is among the most competitive doctor specialties and currently ranks #4 based on 2022 NRMP data.

The average orthopedic surgeon earns approximately $557,000 per year and works an average of 57 hours per week.

If you like musculoskeletal anatomy and prefer the feeling of physically fixing a problem as opposed to managing it medically, orthopedic surgery may be for you.

That being said, orthopedic surgery is not without its drawbacks.

The long hours spent in surgery can be challenging. In addition, orthopedic surgery is known for being a heavily male-dominated field. However, this is slowly changing.
