While some fat in the liver is normal, too much fat buildup can lead to serious, even life-threatening conditions. While fatty liver disease is often associated with excessive alcohol use, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease can happen in people who drink little or no alcohol. Experts say nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is on the rise in Hispanics and children.
